2025 Judges

As Machinery and Farm Technology Specialist at the Farmers Guardian I have a keen interest, in farm machinery in particular technological advancement to benefit farms' future sustainability. Gathering information through industry connections and events I continually look for new inotvie products to benefit the farming industry. Of which I use the information to report topical industry developments, to aid the professional farmer in their decision-making process. Alongside the Farmers Guardian, I also write for allied publications Arable Farming and Dairy Farmer magazines with a keen personal interest in both sectors.

Angela Calvert is head of livestock sales for Farmers Guardian which involves managing the sales and markets pages of the magazine. This is in addition to contributing features and technical articles to the livestock section, covering shows and industry events and planning and managing a number of the special livestock supplements. Angela is home-based in South Yorkshire where she has a small commercial sheep flock and breeds horses.

I have been working at Agriconnect since June 2023, working closely on all events within Agriconnect’s portfolio. Before that, my experience in diversification started whilst working for a video technology company where I adapted our strategy of focusing on news to launching an entertainment VOD subscription-only channel. Following the success of the channel, I ventured into working at a Californian winery, where we made use of the land to open guest accommodation on the premises.

I am online editor at Farmers Guardian and have worked here for almost 10 years. Working within the rural community is a real privilege, and I have a passion for telling the stories of those who work to produce our food and maintain our beautiful, British countryside.

Georgina Lamb is the Senior Partnerships Manager at The Farming Community Network (FCN), where she works closely with the agricultural business community and organisations who support the charity.  A first-generation beef farmer’s daughter from Halifax, Georgina has spent most of her career in the farming charity sector supporting those who are dealing with difficulties and challenging times, as well as being hands-on at the family farm.

Born and bred on a mixed livestock farm in Herefordshire, agricultural has always been my passion. This has led me to work on the livestock desk, writing for both Farmers Guardian and Dairy Farmers publications for just over two years. Most recently I have been involved in our new Celebrating Rural Communities section which shares the best of our rural communities and young farmers. 

I trained to be a journalist during the pandemic in 2020 after an opportunity to meet my fellow native Yorkshireman, broadcaster and hero Sir Michael Parkinson. After gaining a qualification at the Sheffield College, I joined the Grimsby Telegraph in 2021 as a trainee reporter. It was a fantastic experience to learn the trade and build the skills required as a journalist in the 21st Century. After a year of training, I joined the Rotherham Advertiser as a senior reporter which was a fantastic opportunity to learn from respected and award-winning journalists with valued experience beyond my years. After another year, the opportunity to join Farmers Guardian became available and, quite simply, I went for it. The opportunity to join a national and respected publication was an irresistible prospect. I really wanted to test myself in an industry which, admittedly, I knew very little about but what a journey it has been. I have had my eyes opened to the wonderful work of farmers across Britain and the unique set of challenges and demands they face from all walks of life. I am now in their corner, fighting every step of the way to hear their views and ensure they are heard across Government. It is a privilege to be part of this industry. So I have been a news and business reporter at Farmers Guardian since May 2023 and it has been a fantastic experience to engage and be inspired by the people who make agriculture the fantastic industry that it is. 

Olivia is a journalist and editor and joined Farmers Guardian's London team in 2011. Olivia became editor of Farmers Guardian in March, 2023.

She is also deputy chair of the Guild of Agricultural Journalists which promotes careers, training and development opportunities for journalists and PR professionals working in agriculture.

Katie Fallon has been a member of the livestock team at Farmers Guardian for over two years now, writing for both the Farmers Guardian and Dairy Farmer magazine. Based in County Durham, Katie is from a beef and sheep background and has a keen interest in the dairy industry.
