Facetime a Farmer, Village Farm, Cambridgeshire

Husband and wife team, Tom and Lisa Martin, run a predominantly arable farm in Cambridgeshire, producing wheat, barley and rapeseed.

Already prolific on social media by posting on Facebook and twitter, the pair created a fresh new digital project that potentially has the chance to create a positive link between education and farming.

FaceTime A Farmer (FaF) means farmers from across the globe can Facetime in to a classroom and teach school children about their industry.

The next step for the project is to look at how to expand the appeal internationally, with significant interest already coming in from the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand for example.

Tom and Lisa’s focus however is to promote and champion British agriculture and will continue to concentrate on establishing their idea within the UK farming sector before running it globally.

Their idea was to make learning about farming easy, accessible and fun.

The children can interact and ask questions and seeing as there are nearly 50 million smart phone users in the UK, the possibilities are endless.

They also teamed up with LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming) to help take FaF nationwide and get the message out there.

An FaF website was also produced to help provide the needed info to prospective farmers and teachers on how to run a class and the soft launch video attracted almost 4,000 views.
