2018 SILVER WINNER FOR DIGITAL INNOVATOR
OF THE YEAR
Laura Hodgkins
Girl about the Farm, Cocking Hill Farm, West Sussex
After making the decision to leave her marketing job in London and farm full-time with her husband, Andy, Laura set up her blog, Girl About The Farm, with a view to document what life is really like in her new agricultural venture.
Marrying blog posts about farming lifestyle with practical insights in to working life, Laura has managed to create a brand mixing country fashion, farming and marketing.
Now helping to run a 2,000-head flock of New Zealand Romneys on an extensive outdoor system on the South Downs, one of Laura’s main aims is to spread a positive farming message, and to let others know that you don’t have to come from an agricultural background to give it a go.
Blogging
Her strong digital presence and imaginative photography has led to Laura being featured in key lifestyle publications such as The Sunday Telegraph, and her unique narrative has attracted the likes of internationally renowned brands such as Barbour and Land Rover.
Farming at Cocking Hill Farm, a tenant farm part of the Cowdray Estate, Laura has developed her blogging voice and recently won Country Style Blogger of the Year 2018.
She has also secured a place as a Tesco Future Farmer 2018, having found the confidence to apply after receiving such positive feedback about her website.
Using her background in marketing and passion for lifestyle publications, Laura wanted to create a website that was made for farmers and non-farmers alike, hoping they could follow her through the eyes of someone who was new to the agricultural world.
