FINALIST FOR FARM WORKER
OF THE YEAR

Sponsored by: Isuzu UK

Glen Shaw

Coldharbour Farm, Stenigot Estate Company, Lincolnshire

Livestock manager Glen works on the Stenigot Estate, a 1,215-hectare (3,000-acre) in the Lincolnshire Wolds, he oversees the welfare of 200 beef cattle and 800 sheep.

Since his arrival on the estate, his employer says standards have noticeably improved and the estate has a new energy. Glen goes over and above the call of duty at all times and recently put the business back on the map when a steer he raised reached the top price in the country.

Glen has introduced a new breeding programme for the sheep at Stenigot and through careful selection and culling is seeing increased success at local auction mart, Louth, which he actively campaigned to keep open, when 12 months ago the local council threatened its closure.

Looking to the future, Glen says he sees himself staying on the estate, continuing to develop the business, with an eye on a farm manager’s role.  Asked about his farming hero, Glen said it was his father who is still farming in Blackburn, Lancashire.
