Ben Davies Agricultural Contracting, Montgomeryshire

Ben started his business aged 22 in 2010 while full-time working for BT as an engineer.

Three years later, he focused on contracting full-time after saving frantically over the years to buy his machines and now he owns three of his five tractors.

After identifying a need for the process in his local area and working with other contractors, he now specialises in full service bale business across mid-Wales and Shropshire thanks to constant recommendations. At his busiest, brother James works full time along with seasonal staff.

When baling is quiet, Ben has secured contracts with two large arable farms in spring and autumn undertaking various contracting duties. He also ensures he keeps a stock of his own bales for customers in the winter who might need them.

Business has grown to enable him to afford his brother full-time as well as seasonal workers over busy periods, and prides himself on delivering a reliable and efficient service to customers.

Investing in technology, Ben works with his local dealer to ensure he and his drivers are competent in the use of all machinery to deliver an optimum service.

For Ben, it isn’t about being the biggest contractor with lots of foragers and many employees, he is focussed at being the best at what he does and focuses on executing that service.

Reliability and efficiency is key and Ben appreciates the importance of customer retention and building up a strong profile to keep them coming back.
