2019 SILVER WINNER DIGITAL INNOVATOR
OF THE YEAR
Andy Venables
Hills Green Farm, Hillsgreen, Cheshire
Hills Green Farm is a fourth generation tenanted dairy farm on the outskirts of Macclesfield, Cheshire. Over the last 30 years, Andy’s family has grown the dairy farming business to over 190 hectares, 300 cows and 160 youngstock.
Alongside plans to expand the current business, Hills Green Farm opted to diversify and embrace Andy’s experience from outside agriculture, where he worked as a Commercial Director at a leading digital marketing business in Manchester.
He quit his role there to return to the family business – and Hillsgreen was born.
Hillsgreen helps rural businesses of all sizes to embrace digital marketing and the associated technologies, as well as providing strategic advice to bring in new technologies to support growth.
Andy simultaneously displays new digital techniques and innovative strategies on his own farm and with the diverse range of businesses the team work with around the UK.
Hills Green Farm acts as a testing ground for many agribusinesses in their own route to market.
“In managing both the farm and marketing business, we have combined our two core passions by investing in a community initiative focused on marketing milk and promoting its health benefits – Mission 4 Milk,” explains Andy.
“For our niche, rural marketing agency and our Mission 4 Milk campaign, our route to market has been focused on a combination of what we preach – digital marketing strategy – and what we have grown up with as farmers – good old-fashioned word of mouth.”
“As a marketing business that helps our rural business clients embrace the digital marketing eco-system, it is vital for us that we stay at the forefront of new developments.
“We are also passionate about the future of the rural sector and we believe young people have a key part to play here with lots of digital opportunities.”
