Advice from last year’s winners: Why should you enter?

No matter what the size or scale of your farm is, you can enter the British Farming Awards.

Entering awards may seem a daunting prospect, but it’s a fantastic opportunity to really look into your business, what you’ve been doing and celebrate your achievements, giving you the chance to boost your business with networking and press coverage.

But don’t take our word from it, we got in touch with last year’s winners to ask why you should enter and what advice they would give anyone this year…

Entering the awards might seem like a chore, but it’s about recognition of the best in our industry, and if you are proud of what you do, we really want to know about it.

Enter to challenge yourself and to encourage you to make improvements. Be honest and open about what you are doing.

You have to be in it to win it! I didn’t think for a minute that when I entered I would even be considered, so it’s always worth a try.

Farmers are very good at modestly getting on with things quietly but going forward we will have to sell ourselves in the market place. The British Farming awards is a great platform to shout about the great work which is going on in our industry and if you are someone who is going above and beyond, don’t be afraid to shout about it!

With the war against Covid-19, the British public has experienced first-hand the need for a reliable food supply. British Farmers have worked tirelessly to supply our people through this difficult time. If there was ever a time to be proud to be a British Farmer, now is it.

The awards are a fantastic way to showcase British agriculture and the people in it! It certainly spurred me on to think better of myself and want to see what heights I could climb to. But winning isn’t the whole story, even being a finalist was breathtaking. The phone call to say I’d been shortlisted took me a week to recover from, and even that wasn’t a complete recovery.
I’d advise anyone entering the awards to just enjoy it! It’s a fantastic scheme and the awards night was like no party I’ve ever been to. Even if you don’t win, just being a part of it is worth it!

I would recommend anyone to enter because the feeling of winning and being recognised for doing a job so important for the health and well-being of the country along with its wildlife and landscape has to be one of the most rewarding jobs, so why not celebrate what we are good at… producing food.

In light of the current challenges of 2020, farmers are going above and beyond across the country. We are literally feeding the nation at this crucial time, so if you feel you or someone you know should be recognised for what you are doing – don’t hesitate, be positive and enter the British Farming Awards

It is worth entering the awards as the process of filling in the application is a great way of getting a handle on how your business is performing, making you think about your plans for the future. Also, it’s a cracking night out!
