Perfection Collection, Shropshire

James, 27, Richard, 28, and Tom, 28, all share a passion and appreciation for pedigree cattle.

Having worked with, shown and judged every major breed in the UK they have travelled the world as members of Holstein Young Breeders and were inspired to create an exciting and dynamic platform to showcase world class dairy genetics to the global market.

Following months of dedication and patience, the trio secured 90 lots of world-class genetics from Germany, Holland, Italy, the USA, Canada and the UK.

The first Perfection Collection Sale welcomed more than 800 pedigree breeders to Shrewsbury Auction Centre as superior cows were shown against a backdrop of lights, music and fog machines creating a unique sales experience.

The three, all of whom work in businesses supporting dairy farming, also assembled a team of the world’s best cattle preparation technicians who clipped, prepared and washed the animals ahead of the sale.

Exceeding expectation

While their budget was based on an average estimation of 2,800gns per lot and a clearance rate of 80 per cent on 100 lots, the reality averaged 4,600gns with a 90 per cent clearance of 90 lots. The top price on the day was 21,500gns for Tynealley Rubi a Bambi – the highest price at public auction for a dairy cow in the UK for three years and the highest so far this year in Europe.

A second sale is currently being planned.

Richard says: “We are young breeders exploring a new approach to sales and we want people to have a good time and feel reinvigorated about UK pedigree breeding so as to breathe new life into the industry.”
